Staples: How To Stop Tim Tebow

Another great Tebow-related column from SI.com today -- this one from former Gators beat writer Andy Staples, on how to stop Tebow. This is the best analysis I have read about how it happens.

Be sure to check out the "Inside the Play" analysis of the stop on 4th-and-1 versus Ole Miss. Ultimately, though, Staples sums up why it takes a perfect storm to stop him:

To truly contain Tebow, you'll need to force Meyer to make his star carry more than 15 times, spy him with a 290-pound former kick returner and use your future first-round defensive tackle to stuff him on fourth-and-one with the game on the line. This plan is completely foolproof. It can't fail.

One detail to file away: You could argue Ole Miss's win was a fluke. You cannot argue that Auburn handled Tebow and Florida the entire game they played in 2007, an Auburn win.

Who was the mastermind defensive coordinator of that Auburn defense? Will Muschamp, currently the defensive coordinator of... Texas.

If (or when) Florida and Texas -- both unbeaten -- line up for the national title game at the Rose Bowl, don't be surprised for the storyline to be "Muschamp is the only coach in the country that owns Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer."

And Muschamp's players at Texas are much more talented that the ones he had at Auburn....
